As of August 1, 2015, the MDE requires your Personal Identification Code (PIC) when obtaining SCECHs.  How to locate your PIC number.
 

SCECHs are state-approved in service, workshop, training, or conference credits that are used for the renewal of selected certificates issued by the MDE. SCECHs are the total number of instructional hours in a program; i.e. an eight (8) hour session would award 8 SCECHs.

 

Who is eligible to use SCECHs for certificate approval?

Individuals who hold the following certificates and licenses are eligible to obtain and use SCECHs toward certificate/licensure renewal:

  • School Psychologist certificate
  • School Guidance Counselor license
  • School Administrator certificate
  • Professional Education certificate
  • Occupational Education certificate
  • Provisional Education certificate
  • Interim Occupational certificate

Under the new Administrative Rules, the credits educators must earn for renewal of their certificate has also expanded to include the five days of professional development a district is required to provide their teachers annually (PA 289, 1995 Sec.380.1527).  The options to earn credits for renewal are:  6 college semester credits, 150 state continuing education clock hours, district-provided professional development (Sec. 380.1527), or a combination of these. Instructions for Reporting District-Provided Professional Development

In additional to traditional workshops, seminars, trainings and conferences, Non-Traditional Professional Activities are also eligible to receive State Continuing Education Clock Hours.
